    Event description

In Warndoolier (Banks Reserve, Mt Lawley) in October, our community came together to Save the Trees, and the Birds and the Bees, and we lost.  The pain lingers, and like all grief it demands to be acknowledged, held and witnessed in a collective space.

As natural ecosystems disappear before our eyes, despite our collective call for another day and another way, our hearts fall along with the trees.  This event is for all who live with heartache around the continued destruction of the more-than-human-world - in our neighbourhoods, across the country and around the world.

Our Grief Gathering for the Trees will take place just beyond the Warndoolier (Banks Reserve) carpark under the ficus tree closest to the Derbarl Yerrigan.

Please BYO chair, cushion or rug to sit on, a dark texta or sharpie, and a hat if you wish!

The simple ceremony will be CHILD FRIENDLY so please invite families who may wish to model to their children that sadness for the environment is OK.

The event will end with the making of Carnaby cockatoo kites for kids to run around with, and/or to hang in our trees at home 🌳 Coffee van ‘Kafe a Go Go’ will be on-site for our event with complimentary refreshments thanks to the wonderful proprietor Tracy.

Some native trees and seedlings have been gifted to our Grief Ceremony and the Warndoolier Community by Trillion Trees and the Guildford Garden Centre.

Thanks again for taking time out to honour your grief.

    THE WARNDOOLIER NEIGHBOURHOOD GROUP

NOTE: At the Gathering approval to be filmed will be asked of everyone as we’re collecting footage for a documentary about the trees.  If you’d like to contribute to this project in any way, please reply to this email.
