Description

Grief Stitching helps hold what feels too big to hold. This stitching circle is a safe space for exploring and releasing grief and loss and is facilitated by a registered Expressive Arts Therapist. Explore the intersection of textiles (specifically slow stitching), creativity, connection, and grief through expressive arts processes.

Slow stitching is an intentional process of hand stitching using assorted fabrics, a variety of knots, and free stitching. There is no need for "neat outcomes" or pretty completed projects. Slow stitching techniques embrace imperfection and wonky stitching. You work at your pace; we don't finish a piece per session but rather build a body of slow-stitched work progressively over several months.

This group is intended as a semi-closed community that gathers together fortnightly for 12 sessions (open for the first few sessions then becomes closed). There is also a Facebook community aspect for regular, informal supportive engagement and connection with fellow grief sojourners (optional but recommended)

Purchasing a Grief Stitching kit as an add on is highly recommended. The slow stitching kit contains everything you need to get started with Grief Stitching, such as a needle, threads, and assorted fabric pieces. Each kit contains session specific materials for the session and enough to continue stitching in between sessions. You will be invited to incorporate sentimental threads/fabric in later sessions.

NOTE: You can slow stitch with fabrics, needles, and threads you have on hand and a materials list will be sent upon booking with the (highly recommended) requirements which might include things such as specific colours or textures of fabrics and threads.

NDIS participants are most welcome. Please message me for details and an invoice. (I am a registered Arts Therapist)

Suits ages 18+

A gentle reminder: Focus group sessions are not a substitute for individual therapy sessions but are a supportive adjunct to your grief, healing, and mental health goals. These sessions are not designed for diagnosis or individual treatment of acute psychological distress or specific mental health conditions.
