Description

You are invited to bring your grief related to any and all kinds of losses.

Many of us find very little welcome and hospitality for our grief in our cultures and contexts. Our grief can often be choked by silence and oppression. We may feel there is no place to take it where it can be truly received. We may also have internal barriers, leaving us feeling that grief will make us unacceptable to others, or that it might swallow us whole, if we allow it in its fullness.

What will happen

This online ritual gathering of 1.75 hours offers a compassionate and well-held space for sharing and witnessing each others’ grief-related experience, along with writing practice and small group sharing. You won’t be asked to share your writing unless you want to.

Leesl and Emma draw on the work of Francis Weller who teaches on the necessity of attending to our grief, in order to metabolise it into medicine for us - individually and collectively:

"To acknowledge our grief is to free our love to fall outwards into the waiting world."

This gathering weaves in the idea that opening ourselves to an apprenticeship with sorrow supports our capacity to become more fluent with grief.

Accessibility and other details

This gathering will have a maximum of 25 participants.

We are intentional about creating a group that is culturally safe, accessible, LGBTQIA+ friendly, neuroaffirming and respectful of diverse life experiences.

We would like people to have cameras on where possible to support the sense of shared presence. However, you will also be welcome to be off camera for times if you need to. Similarly, please feel free to move, lie down and take care of your body in anyway needed during the gathering.

Sharing via text in the chat is also an option if you prefer this to speaking aloud in a group.

Please get in touch with us if it might be helpful to talk through how we can ensure the group feels as welcoming and accessible for you as possible.

You can reach us via email: grieflanding@gmail.com

You are also welcome to text us to set up a phone call: Leesl 0423 265 538 / Emma 0448 837 912

Francis's key ideas can be found in his book The Wild Edge of Sorrow: Rituals of Renewal and the Sacred Work of Grief.

We encourage you to read the book and/or explore Francis's work in podcasts and online, but you don’t need any prior knowledge of his work to come to this session. We also want to acknowledge that while we are using Francis’ work as a reference point, he draws on the work of many others who have developed and are developing practices and skills to support our collective capacity to hold grief. Along with Francis, we and our training have benefited from the wisdom and writings of many of these people, past and present.
