Grounded: A festival of earthy ideas
Description
Mount Roland Land Care are having a mini-Festival on April 29th and 30th
Over both mornings, we aim to plant 500 native plants - will you help us? Volunteers will need to register for planting sessions by booking a ticket for Saturday and/or Sunday morning, 9.30 to 11.30am. The planting will take place next to the Sheffield Transfer Station, East Victoria Street. Please bring your own water, gloves, sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, plus a favourite planting tool (if you have one). Standard tools will also be available. Tree-planting volunteers will be offered lunch tokens for use at the Festival.
In the afternoons, starting at 12.30, join us for some brilliant talks, food n drinks (for purchase unless you have a tree-planters token), plus live music, all at Wilder Tasmania, 30-32 Wellington Road, Gowrie Park! Bookings are essential.
Saturday afternoon: Lisa Cawthen will unlock the secret world of bats, especially Tassy's microbats, and Rees Campbell will share some wild Tasmanian foods, helping us learn how to identify them, what to do with them, and how to grow them in our gardens. Plus we're also running a locals' expo - learn about some earthy projects from a few of our most engaged local residents!
Music: prepare for the sweet, open-hearted sounds of Isabel Rumble, and a little bit of blues, country, folk and rock n roll from the wonderful Amber Rae Slade.
Sunday afternoon: Sarah Lloyd will talk on Tassy's exquisite slime moulds - what they are, where they live and how to find them. This is a hands-on session - bring a torch or head lamp and a hand lens if you have one. Sarah will be followed by Theresa Chapman, soil ecologist and sustainable ag enthusiast, fresh from a stint at the James Hutton Institute in Scotland. See you there!
Music: the funky, soulful mix of the Pete Cornelius Trio
