Grounded in Garnock - Week 1 - Practical Workshop 1 - Stories of Place
Event description
Grounded in Garnock - Unearthing Networks in Nature
Sometimes we don’t know what is happening when it is right in front of us! Whether it is on land, sea, sky, above the soil, beneath the soil and within communities around us. The Grounded in Garnock - Unearthing Networks in Nature project aims to showcase, shine a light on and further develop some of the amazing networks and nature within our area!
Grounded in Garnock has been funded by North Ayrshire Council and has been co-created by The Beith Community Trust and local Social Entrepreneur, Michelle Sutherland. It is a 6 week series of seminars and hands-on workshops which take a different topic each week focusing on exploring and nurturing the living systems we live in. We are looking to maximise the natural resource, grassroot activities and infrastructure of the Garnock Valley for educational activity.
Week 1 Practical Workshop will be: Grounded in Garnock - Stories of Places
We will be connecting to the places within The Garnock Valley and the stories between each place. By connecting with land as humans we can delve deeper into how we influence and respond to the land.
Meet our Educator for this Practical Workshop: Becky Duncan
Becky Duncan established Open Aye as a social enterprise in 2010 and provides professional photos and participatory arts projects for communities.
She has a background in advertising and media strategies, a masters in Art & Social Practice and extensive experience on working alongside communities to document social & environmental impacts. Her participatory projects often include therapeutic arts practice, in nature-based settings, but projects are also used for advocacy purposes and as a form of social action research.
Becky's photos are used by a range of charities, funders and voluntary sector players, to tell stories, raise awareness and galvilise support.
