GROUNDING: A Teach-In on Native History & Soil
What does it mean to be grounded — in place, in history, in purpose?

GROUNDING is a powerful, two-hour teach-in that weaves together Indigenous knowledge, environmental stewardship, and practical tools for regeneration.

The event opens with a Muwekma Ohlone Land Acknowledgment and a presentation on the Native history of Alameda led by Gabriel Duncan of the Alameda Native History Project. You’ll learn about the original people of this land, their deep relationship with place, and how colonial erasure continues to shape modern narratives.

Then, Otis (Master Composter) shares how composting is more than waste diversion — it’s about making Earth. Through regenerative practices, he shows how we can heal land and connect to it in powerful ways.

Amos White, founder of 100K Trees for Humanity, is the MC for this event.

This teach-in is hosted by Bay Area Makerfarm, in collaboration with Alameda Native History Project and 100K Trees for Humanity.
