Description

Tackling autofluorescence in mammalian samples. Autofluorescence is no longer just a background nuisance; in the era of spectral cytometry, it’s a measurable component that can unlock deeper insights. This module explores common analytical challenges in mammalian samples, teaching you how to characterise, manage, and even leverage autofluorescence for better data. Learn best practices for panel design, controls, setup, and interpretation to turn complexity into clarity.

What will I learn?

Understanding the impact of autofluorescence (AF)

Panel design considerations for samples with complex AF

Unmixing optimisation with complex AF

Following the lectur,e complete a hands-on exercise with our data to understand how best to handle AF in SpectroFlo.

FAQs

  • Who should attend this module?

This class is ideal for Grow Your Flow series attendees as it builds on prior knowledge. Content is also ideal for those with intermediate and advanced cytometry experience. If beginners attend, we recommend that they pair up with an experienced peer.

  • How long is the class?

The lecture itself is designed to take approximately 90 minutes. After a short lunch break you will work through a curated dataset with our guidebook to show you useful tools and workflow tips for a common sample with complex autofluorescence (mouse lung tissue). Completion time for the analysis component varies widely between people of varying experience levels. The data workshop is designed for you to work individually or in small groups at your own pace. Learn from others how they interact with software and share your own experiences and suggestions. The session includes lunch and cookies (of course!) and as the class is designed with flexibility to account for the experience of each user and group, you take a break whenever you need to and take as long as you like.

  • Is the class in person or online?

Both. If you are able to attend in person, we have capacity for 21 people in the computer room at the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research in Wellington, New Zealand. If this location does not suit you, then you may register to attend online.

  • I want to register as an online attendee, what presentation platform will be used and when will I receive the join link?

We have found that Microsoft Teams has shown the greatest cross-institute and device compatibility. A join link will be provided to online registrants with their ticket purchase.

  • When is the latest I can register for a class?

Registration for each class will close 6 hours prior to the start time. BUT - anyone registering later than 48 hours prior to the beginning of the workshop may not have a software license allocated to them and will need to find a partner with an active license to work with during the class. In addition, lunch catering orders will be placed 48 hours prior to the class, anyone who registers after that time will need to provide their own lunch.

  • I registered, but I missed the class, can I get the content?

Each class will be recorded and made available to registered class members through our Members-only section of the Hugh Green Technology Centre Website. Our slides are animated and contain interactive media, and do not translate well into a hand out, therefore we do no share our slides. The lecture component will be recorded and shared, the workshop itself will not be recorded. As the workshop is designed for everyone to work at your own pace , there is no recording. However, there is a dataset and an instructional guidebook available in the members only section of our website that will allow you to walk you through the analysis in your own time. You can complete this at your own leisure. Be aware that software demo licenses provided by the vendors may only be active for the 14 days following the workshop, if you delay you will need to arrange access to the relevant software for yourself (e.g., with a trial license from the vendor).
