Our first Wellington/East Gippsland Meetup brings Sally Kendall to the Zoom screen.
Sally joined the Bairnsdale Recycling Enterprise Inc (BREI) committee nearly four years ago, and is currently the President. BREI operates what is locally called the “Tip Shop” at the Bairnsdale Landfill site.
BREI is a social enterprise with the core purpose of diverting waste from landfill and creating employment opportunities for people who’ve experienced barriers to employment.
BREI is now celebrating 10 years in the business, a new social procurement contract with East Gippsland Shire Council and the announcement of a soon to be launched REPAIR CAFE in Bairnsdale. (Whoo hoo!). Hope you'll come along to find out more.
Sally says "We all dream of an East Gippsland with a thriving local economy, sustainable lifestyles and truly connected communities with better job opportunities. We can all enjoy a brighter economic future through long-term and collaborative approaches to economic development. The place of community initiatives such as social enterprise, the arts and cooperatives are essential in our rural economies”.
Sally will outline the journey BREI has been on over 10 years, and look ahead at what the future could hold. She's participated in the New Economy Network of Australia for the last 2 years.
