Guided Fantasy

Join local artist, Zoe Milah DeJesus, for a playful and relaxed evening of music and drawing at the beautiful Community Wine House in Northcote.

Expect a low-pressure, intimate atmosphere where you will explore abstract and surreal drawing with various mediums. Guided exercises will help you let go of perfectionism, and reconnect with your creative instincts. We’ll focus on drawing as a way to express yourself, rather than trying to draw things realistically.

We will be joined by artist/musician/composer, Siwei of Freedom Fly who will play the harp for us during the free draw portion of the evening - using music to help us get out of our heads and find flow.

You will hopefully leave with some new tools and techniques to ease the fear around picking up a sketchbook and drawing, simply for yourself.

Beginners are welcome and highly encouraged to attend!
No experience necessary.

This workshop is for you if:

• you want to make art but don't know where to start.

• you're looking for a meaningful, fun and accessible way to express yourself creatively,

• you're feeling burnt out or stressed.

• you're looking for a healthy way to relax and unwind.

• you're an experienced artist and you want a community space to draw and feel connected.

We will provide:

• all art materials (paper and various mediums), but feel free to bring your own if you like!

• tea & light snacks

• art books for inspiration

Option to bring:

• journal & pen

• small blanket for sitting on the floor (note: the group will sit together at a communal table - the blanket is optional as there will be opportunities to break away and find privacy within the space)

About the artists:

Freedom Fly (Siwei) is an Australian-Chinese jazz pianist, composer, lyricist and improvisor based in Melbourne, VIC. Combining classical training with a fearless jazz mentality, she writes and performs eclectic, genre-infused original music that merges piano, voice and harp with spoken-word poetry. Her songwriting draws on emotional vulnerability and lived experience, tracing a woman's journey through dreaming, artistry, and a continuing search for clarity and truth - music that has been described to "put people into their hearts.". Freedom Fly performs solo and with her band, including a trio debut at the Melbourne Int'l Jazz Festival 2025. 

Zoe Milah DeJesus is a Puerto Rican-American-Australian painter and emerging filmmaker. Her practice explores themes of isolation, spirituality, human connection and nature. Her visual language is influenced by surrealism, Indigenous Latin American art and street culture. She works with many different materials including spray paint, acrylic, pastel, clay, and more.
