Event description

Join us for an immersive full day in the forest!

Explore the stunning Ships Stern circuit, a 19.5 km loop with an elevation gain of 913m which highlights the Gondwana Rainforests of the Australia World Heritage Area. This challenging bushwalk promises unforgettable vistas, lush rainforest valleys, and hidden waterfalls.

Begin your journey descending along the Lower Bellbird track, passing Koolanbilba and Yangahla lookouts with panoramic views that stretch over mighty ranges and plunging valleys. Soon, you'll veer onto the Ships Stern circuit, where the adventure truly begins.

Traverse through a lush stand of piccabeen palms, leading into Nixon Valley adorned with towering red cedar and majestic flooded gums. Opt for the short side-track to Lower Ballunjui Falls, a peaceful oasis nestled at the valley's floor.

Cross Nixon Creek and ascend through Hidden Valley, passing by Charraboomba Rock before reaching the pinnacle of Ships Stern range. Here, amidst open eucalypt forests, witness the unique scribbly gums that characterize this area. Pause for lunch at Kooloobano lookout, soaking in breathtaking panoramas.

The circuit continues along the eastern flank of Ships Stern Range, offering more expansive views and several lookout points. For an extended adventure, follow the Upper Ballunjui side-track to Guraigumai Rock and Upper Ballunjui Falls, adding to the grandeur of your journey.

Pass by Nagarigoon Falls and link with Daves Creek circuit, turning towards the Border Track to complete the loop back to the Saddle trailhead.

Immerse yourself in the ecological wonders of the Gondwana Rainforests, celebrated for their geological significance, evolutionary heritage, and rich biodiversity. Each step unveils a landscape teeming with rare, threatened, and endemic species, making this bushwalk a true testament to Australia's natural splendour!

Meet: 8am @ Wild Earth Burleigh Heads Car Park where we will pick you up and drive you to the trail head.

Snacks & goodies are included!
