Guinea Pig Workshop

Event description

Guinea pigs are a very common beginner pet for many people, but they can often surprise new owners with the amount of care and consideration that they require. At CCF, we’ve been looking after guinea pigs for decades and we’ve developed a short course to pass on all our expertise in a practical hands-on workshop. Whether you’ve owned guinea pigs before, are adopting for the first time, or have children who are interested in learning about responsible pet ownership, this course is for you!

Join Eleanor and Meg, two dedicated members of our Animal Husbandry team, as they lead a short course delving into the ins and outs of best practice care for guinea pigs. With seven years at CCF, Eleanor's journey from public engagement to animal husbandry equips her with extensive expertise in facilitating safe and constructive interactions with animals. Meg brings over a decade of experience in animal welfare, specializing in the behavioral and health-related complexities of guinea pigs. Together, they offer a comprehensive workshop aimed at nurturing the well-being of these beloved small pets.

You’ll learn about:

  • The history of guinea pigs as a species.
  • Appropriate housing requirements.
  • How to provide a healthy diet for guinea pigs and their unique nutritional needs and requirements.
  • Common health issues and how to prevent them.
  • How to provide fun enrichment activities to keep them mentally and physically stimulated.
  • How to calmly interact with and safely handle guinea pigs.

Attendees must be a minimum of 14 years old, and children under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (at no extra cost).

This event will be hosted in No. 18 at Collingwood Children's Farm with light refreshments. Please note any dietaries in your booking.
