Gungahlin's Mulanggari Grasslands Talk and Tour

See-Change Gungahlin invites you to a mornings exploration of one of the ACT’s loveliest grasslands.
This natural temperate grassland has been listed as endangered since 2000 and is a protected, much loved part of Gungahlin’s natural heritage.
Its importance as a key habitat for three threatened species - the Striped Legless Lizard, the Perunga Grasshopper and the Golden Sun Moth - is recognised under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Act.
To the casual observer the grassland might appear as a vast empty field of grass but closer inspection reveals a diverse ecosystem full of hidden treasures and surprises.
The Grasslands provide habitat for many of the ACT’s plants and wildlife that are found nowhere else. With the help of our guide for the morning, Bill Graham, we will discover and learn more about the unique plants and animals that make this ecosystem one of Gungahlin’s best kept secrets.
Bill is an ornithologist, well known for his ability to present his extensive knowledge of the natural world in an informative, interesting way. Bill is presently undertaking a Grasslands survey for the Canberra Ornithologists Group and is happy to share his findings with us.
Please consider car pooling or using sustainable transport to get to this event. A short walk through the grasslands will be involved so please wear sensible footwear, and take a hat and water bottle with you! There will also be an option to have a cuppa at a nearby cafe afterwards for those that are interested.
