Guru Purnima Celebration 2025
Event description
Join us for one of our favourite Vedic celebrations of the year, Guru Purnima.
On this night, under the brightest full moon of the year (purnima), when the moon is closer to the Earth than at any other time, our tradition alongside the whole of India expresses gratitude for all the teachers (gurus) in our lives. For us, we especially give gratitude to the masters of our Vedic tradition who have passed down the wisdom that continues to transform all our lives.
Each year, we love coming together as a community and sharing a memorable experience. This year's event is a special collaboration with Vedic meditation communities across Melbourne.
We will be gathering in St Kilda at the Betty Day Community Centre for a group meditation and Vedic ceremony (puja), followed by a Vedic storytelling/mythology and kirtan with Heidi Mellican. We will then have open community time to gather, connect, and share sweets.
Friends, family, and partners of Vedic meditators are all welcome!
WHEN: Thursday 10th July, 6:15pm-9pm (please arrive from 6:15pm to get a seat and get settled in for a prompt start at 6:30pm). We recommend having dinner early before you come. There will be tea and sweets at the event.
WHERE: Betty Day Community Centre
WHAT TO BRING:
- Reusable cup for tea
- Fresh flower to offer in ceremony
- Blanket or shawl if you feel the cold
- Cushion for meditation and kirtan (seats will be available to those who would prefer back support)
- Optional to bring a plate of sweets to share with the community as we commune under the full moon
COST: We would like to offer this community event as a $10 donation so that as many people as possible can join us on this special evening.
Please note: If you're unable to financially contribute right now, please email hello@mahasoma.com to discuss an exchange (eg. helping set up/pack down the event)
We look forward to celebrating with you all! Jai Guru Deva!
