Event description

A symposium celebrating the life of Sir Julius von Haast, founder of Canterbury Museum (above), marking the 200th anniversary of his birth.

Presenters from New Zealand and Austria will look critically at Haast's life and works discussing what he achieved, or what he didn't achieve, as well as the impact of colonial attitudes on museums, collecting and exploring as they relate to Haast.

Full details of the programme and the presenters are available on the Canterbury Museum website.

A ticket entitles you to join both sessions which run from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm NZT on Saturday 30 April and Sunday 1 May.
