Habitat Gardening

Create a garden with wildlife in mind and discover how even small changes can help support local biodiversity.

In this practical and inspiring workshop, we’ll explore ways to make gardens more welcoming to birds, bees, butterflies, beneficial insects, lizards, frogs and other local wildlife. Learn how plants, water, shelter and different habitat layers can work together to provide the things wildlife needs throughout the year.

We’ll look at choosing plants for different purposes, including native species, creating food and shelter, providing safe water sources, and making use of features such as logs, rocks, leaf litter and existing garden spaces. We’ll also consider how to create habitat in gardens of different sizes from larger established gardens to courtyards and smaller spaces.

Along the way, we’ll talk about some of the challenges that come with sharing our gardens with wildlife and explore simple, realistic ways to balance a productive or beautiful garden with creating valuable habitat.

Whether you’re starting from scratch or would simply like to make your existing garden a little more wildlife-friendly, you’ll leave with plenty of ideas that can be adapted to your own space.
