Restoration Planting at Hall Creek
Event description
Date: Saturday, November 15 (9:30 - 3:00)
Location: Packwood, WA
Description: Next year we will begin instream restoration work at Hall Creek in Packwood, WA. We will be installing woody structures to add complexity to the stream which will create spawning and rearing habitat for salmon. This fall we will plant native trees and shrubs in the riparian area which will provide forage for wildlife, add nutrients to the stream, and shade and cool the water.
We need your help to get plants in the ground! We will install a mix of bare root native seedlings and live stakes, woody clippings that will root and sprout when installed in soil.
Work Conditions: We will use planting bags to carry and install native tree seedlings and live stakes. Please be prepared for lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, repetitive arm and shoulder motions, and walking 5-10 minutes across a field.
Gear: Please bring appropriate layers for the weather, a daypack to carry your gear in the field, and enough food and water for the day. You will receive a complete gear list in your registration confirmation.
CFC will provide all the planting equipment including planting bags, shovels, and gloves.
Transportation and Vehicle Access: Please contact us at trips@cascadeforest.org if transportation is a barrier to participation. We can arrange carpools if necessary. Our work site is located in the town of Packwood and is accessible via a paved highway.
