Event description
In this 6 hour workshop you will work on your own beautiful, soft woven cloth that you can take home with you. This workshop demonstrates the effectiveness of using a hand-dyed or variegated yarn to make stunning woven cloth (approx. size 85 x 30cm) and is very much beginner friendly, with all materials and supplies included.
We’ll have Ashford rigid heddle looms set up and ready to go at the start of class, you just need to choose your skein of beautiful hand-dyed Alpaca yarn.
Skills covered will include:
- General weaving terminology
- Weaving Plainweave (Tabby)
- Using Pick-up sticks to add a texture/pattern to your weaving
- Neat Selvedges & avoiding draw-in or loops at edges
- Posture & tips for avoiding strain
- Advancing the warp & getting the right tension
- Tips for fixing or re-working ‘mistakes’
- Direct Warping (for a rigid heddle loom)
We will be using a 100% wool yarn and a 100% alpaca yarn, if you are unable to use either fibre please contact us to discuss alternative options.
