Event description
Escape to Millthorpe at Easter for the inaugural Handa Opera at Millthorpe!
Immerse yourself in three days of world-class performances, set against the charm of this historic country town. Enjoy a perfect blend of relaxing days, phenomenal musical talent, and delicious food and wine. It’s the ideal opportunity to unwind and indulge in a weekend of top-tier entertainment, with time to explore local wineries, cafes, and the beauty of Millthorpe and the Orange region.
The opening night Gala Concert will be a manifestation of the music and singing of great opera. All the great opera arias and duets sung by wonderful singers, Natalie Aroyan, Agnes Sarkis, Thomas Strong and Luke Gabbedy and with a special performance of the Meditation from Thais (Jules Massesnet) by the brilliant violinist, Jun Yi Ma. The outstanding Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Paul Terracini.
Saturday evening brings a spectacular performance of the music of Giachino Rossini by the Virtuoso Baritone, Giorgio Caoduro. We often hear Coloratura Sopranos but very rarely does an operatic baritone perform this superb music.
On Sunday afternoon there is a special concert featuring Opera Stars of Tomorrow and on Sunday evening the celebrated Soprano, Noëmi Nadelmann brings her Cole Porter/George Gershwin Concert to Australia for the first time. André Desponds is the brilliant Pianist. What might have been if Cole Porter had written an opera and if George Gershwin had written another opera after the ingenious Porgy and Bess?
During the festival there will be open rehearsals and In Conversations with artists that everyone is welcome to attend.
