Homemade Vegan Pici Pasta with The Pasta Hotline (Online)

Description

The simple act of making pasta from scratch is a wholesome goal for every modern-day food lover. The process is therapeutic, humbling and a way to restore your wellbeing.

After this class, you’ll be able to entertain with ease using this delicious yet manageable dish that will delight friends and family.

The dish is also vegan friendly so perfect for entertaining you and your vegan pals!

What will we cover?

In this wholesome pasta-making workshop, we’ll be making a pasta called ‘pici’, which is essentially a rustic spaghetti. This pasta is made without egg, so it is vegan friendly. We’ll also be making a quick and easy red sauce to go with it — also vegan!

What you will learn -

  • How to make a vegan pasta dough from scratch. 
  • Tips and tricks on how to make your dough without a pasta machine. 
  • How to make pici pasta — a lovely rustic pasta that you won’t often find in restaurants.
  • How to whip up a simple red sauce that is also vegan friendly.
  • And best of all, enjoy a fresh plate of pici that you made yourself!

What should I bring?

If you would like to cook along, have ready the below ingredients and equipment.

INGREDIENTS

  • Bag of plain flour
  • Semolina flour (for dusting) 
  • Water
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Olive oil 
  • 3x Cloves of garlic (or more, you can never have too much!)
  • 2x Good quality tinned tomatoes (whole-peeled)
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Fresh chilli (optional)
  • Salt and pepper


EQUIPMENT

  • Fork
  • Chopping board
  • Chopping knife
  • Frying pan (30cm base)
  • Sauce pot (20cm base)
  • Tongs
  • Wooden spoon
  • Your favourite dish to serve your meal!

Who will be teaching? 

Andrew Eramo (he/him) is Pasta Hotline’s co-creator and host. He grew a community of dedicated pasta lovers from scratch during Melbourne’s 2020 lockdown, and has been teaching people how to make homemade pasta ever since...with delicious and rewarding results. 

By day, Andrew helps tech companies grow. By night, he’s an ultimate foodie with a passion for Italian food and wholesome experiences.
