Event description

Hannah Macklin presents the "Scarab Beetle" Tour!

Hannah Macklin returns to the touring circuit with a new body of work; a sneak peek into what’s to come from her next studio release (succeeding her 2023 LP, “Mu”).

Hannah will be offering audiences on the tour an exclusive free download of her own “Scarab Beetle” mantra; a carefully crafted and researched vocal mantra designed to activate the Third Eye Chakra. The mantra is one of seven which she will release sometime in 2025 under her teaching practice’s name, “Shen Place”.

Hannah herself takes up the bass for these shows and is joined by Magandjin heavies Brandon Mamata (guitar) and Sam Mitchell (drums) who together, pull a dynamic trio sound blending jazz, prog, hip-hop, R&B and world influences to present Hannah’s newest body of work, which is steeped in themes of Dreaming, regeneration, God, love and the cosmos.

Not one to shy away from exploring controversial, spiritual and cross-continental themes, song titles include “Hudna” (Arabic for “Ceasfire”); “Samādhi” (Sanksrit for “a state of meditative consciousness”); and “Yuya Karrabura” (a teaching from the late poet, activist and Ndjebbana woman Alice Eather, meaning “fire is burning”).

The main support slot will be played by Georgie Rose; who creates music that embodies themes of melancholy, longing and love. Her songs are spacious, rich and soulful with lyrics that seek to understand the complexities of love, and the unknowable aspects of relationships.

The show will be opened by Broden Tyrrell, whose Aboriginal roots (together with his love for country, soul and rock music) have shaped his sound and journey. Broden has toured nationally with Tiana Khasi, Los Caracoles and Izy and his voice carries depth and resilience.
