How do we support our students' critical thinking about generative AI tools?

This hands-on workshop explores what "good practice" looks like with AI, and how to do it yourself.

Facilitator Stephen McConnachie will guide you through best practice with real-life examples, and present theory and research in an accessible, practical way. The focus will be on hands-on learning, applying the principles to your own school and context, and creating useable resources yourself.

For kaiako who are new to (or intimidated by) generative AI, the workshop will provide a safe place to start and explore, helping you to incorporate the use of AI in a way that's manageable, ethical, helpful, and aligned with good pedagogy.

For those who have embraced AI tools but are feeling lost or unsure of what's best practice, it offers a chance to review and reset.

This workshop is for you if you are a:

• Classroom teacher who has not yet explored AI, and wants to do it well

• Classroom teacher who has been using AI, and wants to strengthen their practice

• Leader in a school who wants to master and model best practice for your team

About the Facilitator

Stephen McConnachie is an educator, researcher and leadership coach. He supports schools and tertiary education providers around Aotearoa New Zealand with digital best practice, leadership development, and change management. Stephen is particularly passionate about supporting leaders to lead their own change processes. He works with leaders to build their leadership capacity and to bring their people with them as they engage with complex change.
