Foundations Training develops community leaders and strengthens their organisations by building key skills in community organising.
This interactive course is based on the successful model of the Industrial Areas Foundation, founded in Chicago in the 1940s by church and union leaders. Barack Obama used this approach during his time as community organiser. It has since been refined and adapted for the Australian context.
Training covers
- Community organising rooted in diverse traditions (union, faith, social services, disability, environmental)
- Relational organising: relational meetings, listening assemblies, research, negotiation and action
- Strengthening organisations: building a culture that is relational, action-oriented and reflective
- Changing the landscape of power for the common good
Ideal for leaders from member organisations, individuals, and those interested in exploring a partnership with the Hunter Community Alliance. Training costs are covered for member organisations, and individuals can join as Friends of the HCA for $180 www.thehca.org.au/friends-of-the-alliance
