Event description

Established in 1994 by the Minister for Health, Health Consumers' Council WA has long served as a powerful advocate for the community, ensuring that health policy, planning, and decision-making reflect the voices of consumers. Over the years, we’ve worked tirelessly to support individuals in asserting their rights and shaping the healthcare system to better serve them.

We’ve seen significant progress, with consumer and community voices now influencing many areas of healthcare that were once out of reach.

However, the work is far from over, and there is still much to achieve in making healthcare more accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all.

In 2024, we were honoured to host Susannah Fox, whose insights into patient-led healthcare were truly transformative. This year, we are excited to welcome Dr Ben Bravery for what promises to be another inspiring conversation. The Patient Doctor is a powerful memoir by Dr Ben Bravery, offering a rare perspective on the healthcare system from both sides—first as a cancer patient, then as a doctor. His story shines a light on the challenges, gaps, and human experiences within medicine, while also calling for a more compassionate, patient-centred approach to care. Through his journey, Dr Bravery advocates for a system that truly listens to and values the voices of those it serves.

We are pleased to welcome Dr Ben Bravery to join Clare Mullen, Executive Director of Health Consumers’ Council, for this important discussion. Together, they will explore his personal and professional journey, the lessons he has learned along the way, and what needs to change to create a more patient-focused healthcare system in WA and Australia.

Tickets are free. You will be offered the chance to make a donation - all funds generated go to support HCC's work championing consumer rights in health.

This session will be held online via Zoom. If you have any questions about this workshop, please contact us at info@hconc.org.au or call 08 9221 3422
