    Event Details:

    • Date: Thursday, 21 November 2024
    • Guest Speaker: Christine Morgan, Former CEO, The Butterfly Foundation

Christine has an extensive background in corporate law, governance, mental health, suicide prevention and working with vulnerable people and communities.

Christine spent 18 years in senior roles in corporate Australia as Company Secretary and General Counsel of listed companies followed by 5 years in a strategic business development role with Telstra as Executive General Manager.  Christine then transitioned into an area of long held passion:  working in the not-for-profit sector with a focus on community services and working with vulnerable populations, including young people.  She was General Manager at Wesley Mission over the areas of Corporate Services and Community & Family Services.  Christine then took on the challenge of leading change for eating disorders, a serious neuropsychiatric disorder significantly underserviced in the mental health system.  As CEO of the Butterfly Foundation for 10 years and Director of the National Eating Disorders Collaboration she led a collaborative advocacy strategy that resulted in the eating disorders being recognised as life threatening illnesses with accompanying investment from government in treatment protocols, research initiatives and expanded support services.  Christine followed this with 5 years as CEO / Commissioner of the National Mental Health Commission, during which period she also held the dual role of National Suicide Prevention Advisor to the Prime Minister.

Christine is continuing with her commitment to working to change Australia’s mental health system with ongoing involvement with Open Dialogue Centre and the Butterfly Foundation; and has returned to her first love of law joining Australian Migration Law in 2023.  She has a strong interest in governance, particularly its critical role in ensuring the efficient and effective management of organisations such as to unlock their potential and impact.

Christine holds qualifications in Arts Law (BA LLB) and business management (Grad Cert in Management AGSM).  She is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Governance Institute.
