Create. Animate. Be Heard

Whatever your experience, your story matters.

Some days can feel harder than others and our wellbeing journey can be like a rollercoaster.

Maybe your anxiety fairy took control of your thoughts. Maybe your ADHD goblin keeps hiding important things. Maybe your depression dragon has been making life feel heavier than usual.

Maybe you stepped outside your comfort zone, took a deep breath, or reached out for support. Maybe you started a new hobby, tried a new sport, or picked up a new book. Or perhaps you wrote a poem or song about it! Somehow you managed to get through it.

Who knows? Your story might inspire other young people to discover new ways of navigating tough times.

How does it work?

Participants will be supported by facilitators in a relaxed, youth-centred space that values creativity, authenticity, and diverse lived experiences. You'll learn how to develop a short story using a variety of creative storytelling and narration techniques.

Your finished creative piece will be no longer than 60 seconds and is yours to keep, or, if you choose, to share and inspire others by showcasing the many different ways recovery and resilience can look.

Together, we'll develop short stories and bring them to life through animation. Your story can be real, symbolic, funny, fictional, serious, or completely anonymous. You're in control of how it's told.

What we'll do

  • Explore stories of resilience, growth and hope

  • Learn simple storytelling techniques

  • Work together to create a short animated video

  • Share your story in a way that feels right for you

What you'll take away

  • A creative animation of your story

  • New skills in storytelling and creative expression

  • A chance to inspire and connect with others

  • A reminder of the strengths that helped you through

Together we can help reduce mental health stigma

No experience is needed.

This workshop is suitable for any young person aged 12–25 who has a story they'd like to tell - whether that's just for themselves or to inspire hope in others.

So, if you enjoy art, gaming, writing, content creation, or creative storytelling, we'd love to hear from you!

Register your interest and Jo will be in touch.

This workshop requires completion of a registration and consent form. If you are under 16 years of age, parent/carer consent is required.

FAQs

  • Do I need to be using headspace services to be able to participate?

    No you don't.

  • If I am under 16yrs, will I need parent/carer consent?

Yes, you will need their consent.

  • What if my mental health experiences are really traumatic and not for audiences to hear?

Peer Worker Jo, will only encourage sharing stories of what young people are comfortable sharing. This activity is primarily aimed at promoting resilience in mental health and reducing the stigma of seeking support when times are dark, in a quirky fun way.

Sharing deeply traumatic events and/or in explicit detail are not encouraged. Not because we don't want to hear it, but because you deserve to work through it in a more therapeutic and successful way.

  • I'd like to do this, however I am not good in groups. Will there be options?

Yes, options will be able to be explored. Additionally the groups will be small.

  • Will this experience be offered across both headspaces (Wod/Alb and Wangaratta)?

    Yes they will.

  • Who are the facilitators?

Jo Lindsay is our Peer Worker - she will assist through her own lived experiences and creative ways to tell a story.

Additional clinical staff will also be available on your journey of storytelling.
