From patients to policy
Third and final event in the Health Justice Conversations Series

Health justice partnerships have assisted countless people overcome complex and intersecting problems in their lives by providing access to legal help in health settings.

However, these place-based initiatives can face barriers in translating their local efforts and outcomes beyond the communities in which they work. These barriers are often the result of factors such as resource flows, political engagement and priorities, enabling leadership, differences in community engagement and investment, and cultures of scarcity and competition.

So how do practitioners and services working in partnership leverage this collaboration into advocacy for systems change?

Join us in conversation with Bethany Hamilton, co-Director of the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership (NCMLP) at the Milken Institute School of Public Health, as we discuss the key lessons learned about policy advocacy from medical-legal partnerships in the United States. The discussion will explore the systemic advocacy to tackle health inequities that have emerged in the context of the Covid19 pandemic, including the safety and security of housing; and towards racial justice. We will also discuss some of the challenges of undertaking systemic advocacy in partnership; and the opportunities to measure the outcomes of this work.
