Healthcare Rights: Community Meet Up
Event description
A community for people in Queensland who have lived experience of mistreatment or abuse in hospitals and other healthcare settings (eg. Psych wards).
Here we come together to share resources, build community, and take action.
We work together to ensure services are working for us and not to us.
Attend via video (Microsoft Teams) or drop in:
WHEN 2pm Sunday 8th June
WHERE MHLEPQ office, Shop 4, 67 Astor Terrace, Spring Hill 4000
Please come and join us for some afternoon tea and chat!
Focus this month:
How to apply for your healthcare records (Partial filled forms will be available).
What skills we’ve built from our experiences (because we all have them).
Follow up from last month.
Why we come together
Carceral systems are not healing systems.
Human rights issues are occurring in our healthcare facilities and our healthcare facilities know that.
Complaints to the office of the health ombudsman regarding these systemic issues are not being adequately investigated/investigated at all.
People are being denied access to their own medical information while they are admitted and after discharge.
People are being denied access to medical services on the basis of a psychiatric diagnosis.
This seems to disproportionately affect people assigned female at birth (AFAB), especially those with a diagnosis of a mental illness or disability.
We know that by moving together, we will make change.
