Hear Me Out Teens Ascot
Description
Hear Me Out is a free 3-day workshop for young people aged 12–17 years old with intellectual disability, using the unexpected and exciting world of debate to build confidence, communication and self-advocacy.
Debate gives young people something powerful: a reason to speak.
They choose a side, think about what they believe, listen to different ideas and then step forward to share their own. With the support of the group, they get to practice speaking, thinking, listening and expressing themselves — again and again.
Across three days, participants will:
Explore fun and interesting topics
Share opinions and learn to give reasons for their ideas
Practice speaking and listening
Work together and encourage each other
Experiment with confident body language and expression
Build confidence in using their voice
No debate experience is needed. Everyone is supported to join in at their own level, find their own way of expressing themselves, and have plenty of fun along the way, with lots of laughter, energy and creativity.
Hear Me Out was co-designed with people with intellectual disability and is delivered by DSIDQ staff in a safe, encouraging environment.
Three days to try something different, meet new people and discover what you can do.
