More women globally die from heart disease than anything else – but the solutions continue to elude us.

Heart disease in women continues to be seriously understudied, underrecognised, underdiagnosed and undertreated. This is primarily the result of misconceptions, including the widespread view that heart disease affects men more than women. It may go some way to explaining why women are also less likely to attend cardiac rehabilitation, to take their medicine regularly, and to make heart-healthy lifestyle changes. There are many women at risk of heart disease who don’t know it. This quiet epidemic is unfolding in our communities, so what can we do?
