'The HEART Project' - Healing with Art
Two local artists have been collaborating for the last three months,
planning some artistic relief for all those affected in anyway by the
recent bushfires. Angela Gerrard and Lyn Heenan have developed a variety
of creative workshops to bring the community together, have some fun,
learn some art and form new friendships.
Angela Gerrard has been an artist for the past 20 years, running
weekly art classes and weekend workshops in her Beaufort Studio for the
past 7 years. Her family has lifetimes of volunteering with the local
CFA, Angela knows too well the lasting impact of bushfires. “From both
my own experience, and training in Art Therapy, I realise the healing
powers of creative outlets and hope the coming workshop program will
help our community make new connections, skills and relief.”
Lyn, an artist herself currently has the role of Landcare Facilitator
for the Upper Mount Emu Creek Landcare Network. Lyn commented, “I saw
many friends and community grappling to understand and process the fire.
Nature and Art can be so hopeful. We are all looking for connection
post covid, floods and now fire. I saw an opportunity for expression, I
hope the art workshops bring us together no matter our skill level with
some fun and creativity”.
The first of four art workshops will be held Saturday 17th August
from 1.00 to 4.00 in the Beaufort Town Hall. Support for this project
has been given by the Bendigo Bank, the Beaufort Service Group and is
auspiced by the Beaufort Progress Association. Already the Beaufort
Mens Shed are busy building … find out what on 17th August! Due to
these generous donations there is no cost to attend and no previous
experience required.
