Supporting women with intellectual disability with their health and relationships

Who should attend: Health and disability professionals and staff who support women with intellectual disability and their families as part of their job.

Aim: This workshop aims to build the awareness, knowledge and confidence of formal supporters to better support women with intellectual disability in decisions about sexual and reproductive health and safe relationships.

Learning Outcomes

By attending this workshop professionals will

• Gain lived experience insight from women with intellectual disability

• Understand why equitable access to sexual and reproductive health information and support is important

• Understand the role of reasonable adjustments and inclusive communication in supporting participation and choice

• Recognise how unconscious bias can influence support and decision-making

• Understand supported decision-making, consent and positive approaches to risk in health and relationships

• Learn about practical tools and resources that support women with intellectual disability to make informed decisions.

This workshop is co-facilitated by CID team members with lived experience of intellectual disability.
