Is making a medicinal herbal tea the same as just pouring yourself some “regular” tea to drink? Have you ever wondered if your medicinal teas are as potent as they can be? How long do you steep herbal tea to make sure you’re getting medicinal benefits? This day-long class will be a deep dive into the details of crafting the most potent herbal water-based extractions, such as teas, infusions, and decoctions. Some less common water-based extraction methods will also be covered.

We’ll learn what extraction methods are most effective for which herbs, some tips to maximize medicinal potency, and strategies to know if you are getting the most out of your medicinal teas. This experiential class will include opportunities to taste several different teas. We will be cultivating our sensory awareness as a foundational skill for herbal medicine making.
