"Here’s to you Mr Robinson: Improving 100% electrification through architecture: What Jeff Robinson might tell us to get on with"
Event description
The Australian Architects Declare (AAD) and Australian Institue of Architects (RAIA) National Climate Action Sustainability Committee (NCASC) deliver a practice focused workshop on the importance of architecture in improving buildings as they achieve 100% electrification. The event will pay tribute to Jeff's legacy with support also from the Emerging Architects Network of Architecture (EmAGN), Students Organised Network of Architecture (SONA), AIRAH, Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC), Engineers Australia, Clean Energy Finance Corporation and the Materials and Embodied Carbon Leaders Alliance (MECLA) also paying their respects. We will consider strategies for architects to improve comfort and resilience through design, reducing buildings’ lifetime operational carbon through fabric first efficiency and 100% electrification. This presentation is to aid projects to ‘de-gas’ in line with the Institute’s own 2025 carbon target to ‘eliminate of the use of natural gas in all new buildings from 2025’. Our profession is seen in many economic sectors to hold the key to designing out the need for gas and fossil fuels in the built environment from the outset through good design. It is an opportunity to hone skills and capacity in electrification to assist efficiently designed buildings across many scales of projects, relay the benefits to your client(s) and provide appropriate project checklists. MC for the event Dominique Hes: Will MC and introduce the broader electrification themes covered in the presentation. Speakers:
They will speak about implications for bigger buildings on electrification including facades performance, HVAC and include conversations around strategic connections to grid and including the circular economy to design efficiently. It was fitting therefore to contribute much of the teaching and mentoring in this session to Jeff Robinson, who mentored and propelled a large cohort of professionals into sustainability and ensuring that Architects, Engineers (Mechanical and Structural), building scientists, sustainability experts and consultants to work collaboratively towards net zero. This session you’ll hear from some of the people mentored and closest to him, and others who have dedicated their careers to pushing envelopes in 100% electrification.
