Heroes of Hardware: 10 Years of CSIRO's Lindfield Collaboration Hub
Celebrating 10 years of CSIRO's Lindfield Collaboration Hub
On Friday 20th November, we're celebrating 10 years of the Lindfield Collaboration Hub with an event dedicated to the people and technologies that have made the Hub what it is today.
Hosted in The Hive at CSIRO Lindfield, the event will open with Heroes of Hardware, a panel discussion exploring the current realities of building deep-tech hardware and where hardware development is heading in the era of physical AI.
Join Rebecca Lodin (CTO of Mako) and Ted Esdaile-Watts (Principal at techcreators) for a conversation about the realities of taking complex technologies from concept to commercialisation, from prototyping and manufacturing to funding, customers and scale. The panel will explore how advances in physical AI and intelligent systems are reshaping hardware development, where the biggest opportunities lie, and what it will take for Australian innovators to turn emerging technologies into real-world impact.
We'll then bring together our residents, alumni and broader ecosystem for lunch, networking and hands-on demonstrations of technologies being developed in and around the Hub.
It's an opportunity to reconnect with the people who've been part of the Hub's story, meet the next generation of hardware innovators, and celebrate a decade of collaboration.
Lineup

Rebecca Lodin
Rebecca Lodin is Chief Technology Officer at MAKO, where she leads the development, validation, and industrialisation of the company’s drag-reducing shark skin product 'Flightfilm', as well as the buildout of core manufacturing technologies that enable its deployment. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Photonics from the University of Sydney, and has 17 years of experience in photonics and advanced manufacturing, including at Finisar, Baraja, and Nanosonics

Ted Esdaile-Watts
Ted Esdaile-Watts is Principal at techcreators; an independent product design and engineering studio focused on accelerating the development of products to market and delivering custom solutions.

Katie Green (Moderator)
Katie is an experienced people leader and project leader, with a background in precision optics, thin films and surface analysis. Katie has lead multi-disciplinary teams who have delivered key components to high profile experiments including LIGO and The Avogadro Project. With numerous successful precision optics projects delivered for Australian and international clients including Caltech (US), JPL (US), Australian National University and Electro Optic Systems (Aust), Katie has demonstrated her ability to deliver on clients expectations and manage staff resources to achieve extremely challenging specifications. Katie's areas of interest include developing strong internal and external collaborations to build on CSIRO capabilities and exploring opportunities for commercialisation of new technology. These areas are well aligned with Katie's two current roles, firstly as Quantum Sensors Group Leader within Manufacturing at Lindfield and Operations Manager for the Lindfield Collaboration Hub.
Tips for visiting CSIRO Lindfield
Location
CSIRO Lindfield is located at 36 Bradfield Rd, West Lindfield, 2070.
Parking
CSIRO Lindfield has plenty of free onsite parking. Follow the signs for Reception and Visitor Parking (follow the white line on the road). If the visitor parking is full, you are free to park in any staff parking areas, or you may be directed to park on the ring road. See map below.
Keep the map handy. You will need it if you park in one of the parking areas on the ring road. There is not a lot of signage for Reception once you go past it.

Public Transport
The nearest Train Station is Lindfield Station on the T1 North Shore line.
The 565 Bus leaves from the Pacific Highway across the road from Lindfield Station and takes 10 minutes to travel to CSIRO Lindfield. Unfortunately the 565 bus does not run frequently (but more often during peak periods) but a Taxi or Uber from Lindfield station is inexpensive. There is a bus stop next to the CSIRO front gates (on both sides of the road). We suggest checking the timetable on the Transport NSW website.
When you arrive at CSIRO Lindfield, follow the signs for Reception and ensure you check-in. Reception is a 5 min walk from the front gate (follow the WHITE line on the road).
If you have time and feel like a walk, it takes about 35-45 minutes from the train station.
Taxi or Uber
Make sure the Taxi or Uber driver follows the signs for Reception and Visitor Parking (follow the white line on the road). Often Uber will route you to the Loading Dock and follow the yellow line on the road. Make sure you direct them to follow the signs for Reception.
When you get there
Please enter through the foyer, turning right towards Reception. Check-in at Reception and a staff member will escort you to the event room (The Hive).
