High Performance Hempcrete Open House (General Public)

We welcome you to a presentation and Q&A with the Designer, Hempcrete Installer, and Passive House Certified Builder as well as other trade professionals involved with the construction of this unique high performance home in Central Victoria. The home is aiming to meet a Passive House standard and if it is deemed to meet the criteria, will seek certification post occupancy.

The house will be unfinished internally at the time of the presentation, allowing for attendees to observe the air tight construction techniques and passive house technology. The home is constructed with feature grade Hempcrete walls and features a Japanese inspired aesthetic of rich natural materials and minimalist detailing. The house itself will act as a homestead on a working farm for multiple families to cohabitate in, and has been designed from the outset to facilitate this mode of living.

The home features:

• An 8.2 star rating, placing it in the top 0.2% in Victoria for energy efficiency

• Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation system throughout to provide constant fresh, warmed air, stabilise temperature, and recover 90%~ of heat from outgoing stale air

• Passive house level of air tight detailing with blower door test verification

• Very low embodied-energy design, with natural materials acting as biogenic source of carbon sequestration. Timber subfloor construction eliminating the need for cO2 intensive concrete and polystyrene insulation

Where possible we encourage attendees to arrive by public transport. Trains run hourly to Castlemaine and it is a 5km bike ride or taxi from the station to the property
