Join Professor Inger Mewburn (The Thesis Whisperer) for an interactive workshop on writing a research proposal for a MPhil or PhD. The workshop covers composing your research title and research questions and will share tips and tools for putting together a complete proposal.

Professor Inger Mewburn is a research educator who has been working with PhD students for over a decade.

She is creator of the famous Thesis Whisperer blog, which has had 4.3 million hits in the last five years and has 60,000 followers on email and social media. The blog is the most popular source of advice for research supervisors and students around the world because it is grounded in scholarly practice in higher education research.

This interactive workshop is tailored to those interested in applying for a Sir Roland Wilson or Pat Turner scholarship.

Honouring the contributions of Sir Roland Wilson and Dr Pat Turner AM, we bring together The Australian National University (ANU), Charles Darwin University (ANU) and the Australian Public Service (APS) to build research-informed public policy capability and leadership through postgraduate scholarships, professional development and networking opportunities.

We provide scholarships that invest in research and development opportunities for public servants. Our scholars study in a range of fields, such as public administration, economic and social policy, data and cyber security, law, and environment and climate management. They bring back to their agencies important connections with academia as well as expertise in research, ready for successful leadership in the public sector.

The Foundation offers two scholarship programs:

the Sir Roland Wilson scholarship is a three year full-pay scholarship for PhD research at ANU for high performing EL1 and EL2 APS and eligible Public Governance, Performance and Accontability Act 2013 (PGPA) entity* employees
the Pat Turner scholarship is a one-to-three-year, full-pay scholarship for any level of postgraduate study at ANU or CDU for high performing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander APS 4 to Senior Executive Service Band 1 (or equivalent) APS or eligible PGPA entity* employees.

* See PGPA Act Flipchart and List. Note entities prescribed as Government Business Enterprises under the PGPA Rule and entities that are exempt or partially exempt from government policy orders (section 22 of the PGPA Act) are NOT eligible to participate.

These scholarships develop research-informed public policy capability and leadership skills, and support scholars to study topics of national significance and strategic importance to the APS and Commonwealth public sector at either ANU or CDU.
