    Event description

The Bayside Bushwalking Club invites you to join them on the Highfield Greenbush Loop, located in the Mornington Peninsula National Park. This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.

A walk through eucalypt forest, stands of Xanthorrhoea, fern gullies and open grasslands. We should see Eastern Grey Kangaroos and there is an abundance of birdlife.

DISTANCE:  18km Loop walk that will take 5-5:30hrs

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? This walk is suitable for anyone with some good walking fitness as it is 18km. We will walk at a constant pace, but the flora deserves respect with plenty of photos allowed. The kangaroos are often happy to pose for a photo too.

CHILDREN AND PETS:  This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home. Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.

AWT GRADE: 3 (Medium) -Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. We will be walking on formed sandy tracks but be aware of the tree roots that crisscrossed the track in places. AWT Grade information.

PACE: The pace will be a constant medium speed, but breaks for water, and clothing adjustments as needed.

TOTAL ASCENT: Less than 300m. There are undulating hills.

WALK DESCRIPTION: The walk is certainly a delight for nature enthusiasts. The walk is on formed tracks, mainly sandy, but it is a bush track which means there are plenty of tree roots crossing the path that you need to watch out for. There are some formed pine steps that lead to low platforms to cross over small creeks. There are a few places where the wire is missing on the steps and may be slippery if it has been wet.  Generally, it is an easy walk, although long, and constantly changing vista.

MEETING POINT:  Highfield - Mornington Peninsula National Park - Google Maps Highfield Car park. It is a small area so you will see one of the leaders in their Blue Mitsubishi ASX. Please arrive by 8:45 for a pre walk introduction and briefing.

DIRECTIONS: The turn-off for the car park is on the left, 11 km from the turn on to Boneo Road where the Peninsula Fwy ends.  Be alert as the turn off is just after a bend in the road and people are known to overshoot!

CARPOOLING/PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Carpooling is encouraged in our club for those that live close to each other. Please contact the leader the week before for carpool opportunities if you would like to take this option.  There is a shared petrol arrangement for those that carpool from the driver’s home.

PHONE SIGNAL: There is normally always a phone signal on this walk.

TOILETS: There are no toilets at the start of the walk. There is a toilet at the Lightwood Creek Camping area which is where we stop for morning tea.
