Event description

This event provides an opportunity for a deepening knowledge and appreciation of the flow of a river and how the flow of the water impacts the environment and the life around it, mirroring aspects of our own lives.

The Hindmarsh River begins in the hills near Mount Compass, and winds over 20 kilometres through farmland, native bushland, rocky waterfalls, and quiet valleys—falling down hills, passing over cliffs, flowing under bridges, near farms and homes and a school—before reaching its tidal estuary and flowing out to sea at Victor Harbor. Our knowledgeable guide (and local legend, Ian Milne) will share stories of the river’s ecology, cultural significance and the life it supports, and reflect on how the flow of a river mirrors aspects of our own lives. This is a peaceful, family-friendly experience that invites you to connect with Nature and discover the beauty of one of the Fleurieu Peninsula’s most treasured waterways as you walk around the estuary.

This walk covers uneven ground and a reasonable level of fitness is required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Please wear appropriate foot-wear for walking on rough ground and dress appropriate for the weather on the day. Bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen and a drink of water if forecast to be hot.
