SATURDAY 23RD - TEACHINGS

Jetsun Lama Tsongkhapa's Lam Tso Nam Sum: Three Principal Aspects of the Path

"The very essence of all the Buddhas’ teachings,

The path that is praised by the noble bodhisattvas,

And the entrance for all fortunate ones desiring liberation—

To the best of my ability, I shall now set forth."

— First Stanza, Three Principal Aspects of the Path

Je Tsongkhapa’s Three Principal Aspects of the Path distils the Buddhist path to enlightenment into three essential qualities:

Renunciation, which is the heartfelt determination to be free from the suffering of cyclic existence;

Bodhicitta, which is the altruistic aspiration to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings; and

Wisdom Realising Emptiness, which is the profound insight that all phenomena lack inherent existence.

Je Tsongkhapa taught that cultivating all three aspects together is required for genuine spiritual progress: Renunciation overcomes attachment to worldly pleasures, Bodhicitta transforms personal liberation into universal compassion, and Wisdom cuts through the root of suffering by dispelling ignorance. Mastery of these three qualities is the foundation for all further Buddhist practice and leads to the achievement of the ultimate goal of enlightenment.

SUNDAY - EMPOWERMENTS

Vajrasattva and White Tara Jenangs

Kyabje Ling Rinpoche has kindly accepted our heartfelt requests to bestow the Vajrasattva and White Tara empowerments.

The Vajrasattva empowerment offers practitioners blessings and permission to engage in the profound Vajrasattva purification practice, which is renowned for its power to cleanse negative karma and obscurations, and to restore spiritual commitments.

The White Tara empowerment grants blessings and permission to practice White Tara meditation, which is a practice dedicated to cultivating long life, healing, and compassionate activity.

Receiving these empowerments from such a highly esteemed Lama is a rare and precious opportunity to deepen one’s spiritual connection and one’s commitment on the path.

ABOUT HIS EMINENCE KYABJE YONGZIN LING RINPOCHE

His Eminence the 7th Kyabjé Yongzin Ling Rinpoche was born in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala, in 1985. In 1987, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama recognized him as the reincarnation of His Holiness the 6th Kyabjé Yongzin Ling Rinpoche (1903–1983), who was the most Senior Teacher of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

The 6th Kyabjé Yongzin Ling Rinpoche was His Holiness’ main teacher and spiritual advisor throughout his lifetime and accompanied His Holiness when he fled into exile from Tibet in 1959. His Holiness refers to him as “my Root Guru”.  He was also the 97th Gaden Throne Holder - the supreme head of the Gelugpa tradition, which is the largest tradition in Tibetan Buddhism - where he served over 20 years, as the longest serving Ganden Tripa.

Beginning with Charka the Arhat Udhay during the time of Lord Shakyamuni Buddha, twenty previous incarnations of Ling Rinpoche have been identified, including Tutors to His Holiness the 6th, 11th and 13th Dalai Lamas; the 48th and 75th Gaden Throne Holders; as well as kings, yogis, scholars, and lay adepts prominent in the spiritual histories of India and Tibet.

His Eminence the 7th Ling Rinpoche was awarded his Geshe Degree from Drepung Loseling Monastic University in South India in 2016 and completed a year of traditional tantric studies at Gyuto Tantric College in Dharamsala, India. His Holiness the Dalai Lama continues to closely guide him.

Kyabje Ling Rinpoche continues to travel extensively worldwide to teach, organize Dharma activities and promote peace. In 2012-2015, Rinpoche organized His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s historic series of Jangchup Lamrim teachings on 18 classic treatises on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment at the great seats of learning in South India - Sera, Drepung, Ganden and Tashi Lhunpo Monasteries. These teachings were attended by 35,000 - 40,000 people each year, including 3,500 – 4,000 foreign attendees from approximately 70 different countries. Rinpoche has also participated in many Buddhist and interfaith events, including that of Mind & Life Institute from 2004.

More recently, in 2022, Kyabje Ling Rinpoche presided as the delegate for India, over a historic occasion where the Government of India’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism presented for the first time, fifty sets of the 108 volumes of the Mongolian Kanjur to the people of Mongolia, for distribution to important institutions throughout the country. Rinpoche did similarly when visiting Russia in 2023. In 2024, Rinpoche coordinated the historic offering of a documented, Lord Buddha sacred relic to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, by Most Venerable Dr. Waskaduwe Mahindawamsa Mahanayake Thero of the Raja Guru Shri Subuti Mahavihara Monastery of Sri Lanka.
