As a young girl, I ached to know where I came from. My name hinted at Polish roots. But beyond that? Silence. My father had no interest in the past, and my mother’s story was lost in shadows from a young girl. There were no digital breadcrumbs to follow, no sleek databases at my fingertips. Only questions waiting to be answered.

And so, I went to find it and as always added a side trip.
