History and Shape of Artificial Intelligence
Description
For anyone who needs to know enough about AI to ask the questions that matter.
Forming an informed view of AI means knowing something about where these systems came from and how they work. This seminar works through both, and assumes no technical background.
The seminar covers
the historical, conceptual, and technical origins of AI
the primary methods, architectures, and techniques of contemporary AI systems
key debates and concerns
You leave with
A written summary of the topics covered in the seminar, recommendations for further reading and additional resources, and a certificate of participation.
How it runs
Live online, 2.5 hours, with a maximum of 15 participants and time to ask questions throughout. Sessions are not recorded and the Chatham House Rule applies, which makes it easier to speak frankly.
Part of a series
This is the foundation seminar. The other seminars offered by AI Ethics build on it and assume its content. Details of all seminars at ai-ethics.au.
Presented by
Dr Peter Douglas, an AI ethicist with a background in academic philosophy and biomedical ethics, and three decades as a university educator. He is an IEEE CertifAIEd Authorized Assessor, holds an AI & Algorithm Auditor Certification from BABL AI, and conducts socio-technical evaluations and audits of AI systems.
