This workshop offers an introduction to nature journalling, encouraging participants to slow down and observe the wetlands. It aims to help people connect with nature by recording their observations through a blend of science, art, and personal reflection. No prior experience in art, science, or drawing is required—just curiosity and a willingness to engage with the natural world.
Time: 9.45am for 10am – 1pm (3 hours)
The workshop will:
Explore what nature journalling entails
Discuss how nature is represented in a wetland
Delve into examples of nature journalling examples
Discover your own style of nature journalling
Draw upon the wetlands for inspiration using the INIWIRMO technique
Use prompts to create nature journal pages
This is a practical hands-on session, so come prepared to write, draw and record!
Materials provided: notebook (to keep and included in cost), writing implements and a clipboards
Please bring along a water bottle and clothing to suit the weather.
Participants must be over 13 years of age.

Facilitator: Carol Challis, a passionate writer and storyteller with tertiary qualifications in science and communication, has been guiding tours for over a decade. Her love for sharing stories about the environment and our land is evident in her engaging and informative presentations. She is deeply connected to the history, nature and stories of the Hobsons Bay area and has been involved with the Hobsons Bay Wetland Centre since almost its inception.
