Event description

THESE WINTER HOLIDAYS

COME OUT TO PLAY, HAVE FUN, WITH FRIENDS AND BE FREE...

Dear children

Yarrabilba now has it’s very own ‘Community Backyard’. Meaning it is a place for children to meet up with friends, have fun, muck around, play games, construct, be creative and just play. Play is such an important part of childhood. It is how children test and learn new knowledge and skills, build identity, celebrate who they are now, make sense of the world, de-stress, build motivation and as well as stay healthy and fit. Yarrabilba State Secondary College has supported the Australian Institute of Play to create this great play opportunities for your children. The Yarrabilba Community Backyard (YBC) is about making more opportunities for your children to play with friends’ afterschool, in a safe space, with Grown-Up supervision.

Where is the YCB? It is in Yarrabilba State Secondary College and after school drop-off and pick-up is via pedestrian gate across from Sandstone Park, Slate St Yarrabilba.

WHO IS YCB FOR? Children aged 5 to 14. Children below 5 can play if accompanied by parent or carer. This space belongs to the children of Yarrabilba, it is their play sanctuary, and our work is to protect and support children to play.

CAN GROWN-UPs STAY? Grown-Ups are welcome to stay if they wish but this is not necessary. YCB is a space for children to be free and be the directors of whatever they want to do. If you do decide to stay, we ask all grown-ups to remember the children are in charge in the YCB.

OPEN TIMES: During school terms YCB will be open for play 2.45pm to 5pm every Monday & Tuesday as well as set times during school holidays.

Who is supervising YCB? This amazing play space is being looked after by the Australian Institute of Play, who will be providing qualified Playworkers to support the children with their activities.

DO YOU NEED TO REGISTER: Bookings are preferred as we only have limited spaces for children at this stage. Children can just turn-up. You can book by either: Email – hello@australianinstituteofplay.org or qr code on front page.

COST: No cost, Gold coin donation is optional – this is to support the school to maintain this space. Funding is provided for this space from Salavation Army COmmunities for Children - Logan. THANK YOU!

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY -YCB operates under the ‘3 FREE’s’ to make sure children feel like they are in charge of their participation. These are: 1. Free to enter – no cost. 2. Free to do what you want – as long as they uphold the CONDTIONS OF ENTRY created by the students. 3. Free to come and go – Children are not compelled to stay and can leave when they want. Supervising Playworkers will notify parents and guardians if their child wishes to leave
