Holistic Resistance (Aaron Johnson) Pdx Workshop

Event description

A workshop for white-identified folks to dive deeply & courageously into exploring topics of racism, oppression, & privilege.

Holistic Resistance is a Black-led organization.  Ending oppression and healing from the trauma of oppression is a holistic practice.  Let us resist oppression at every level, from one-on-one connections to collective transformation. We want to reach for your heart and invite you to never stop resisting. Together we can stay creative while taking on the impossible.

Common tools we use include:
deep questions, heart-centered listening, singing, grief in community, and earth connection.

    What to Expect

    • Deep connection.  Listening to people across identities about oppression and liberation.
    • Learning to more deeply hold Black stories, pain, and resilience.
    • Collaborative, innovative, and participatory group work and conversation.
    • Self-inquiry and witnessing others in deep inquiry.
    • Letting laughter, tears, and music roll through us, nourish us, and connect us.
    • Singing as a way we can reach for each other and find resonance.
    • Deep and thoughtful work in pairs/dyads, including close proximity (with consent).
    • Being physical (eg easy yoga stretches) and expanding our ability to sit with discomfort
    • A group no larger than about 35 people.

Who is this for?  This workshop is for people (adults) who are NEW to social justice and ALSO people who are already active on behalf of social justice, and everyone in-between.  If you're nervous about the topic, you're very welcome!   If you've felt harmed by social justice stuff, you're very welcome!   We are committed to making our sessions accessible and trauma-informed.

Everyone welcome:   We especially welcome people who've received discouragement about expressing themselves &/or singing.

Support animals welcome if they stay 'quietly introverted' and closely leashed.
