    Event description

Come along and learn about the value of artificial hollows in supporting our local wildlife and enhancing the habitat value of remnant native vegetation.  You will learn about the difference between traditional, plywood nest boxes and a more recent style of artificial hollow - the HollowHog.  This method drills access holes into existing healthy trees with internal hollows in mature trees; or in young trees, creates a small hollow by way of a specialised drill.  Jessica Leck will share the results of a recent research paper into the occupation rates of the two types of artificial hollow; followed by an in-situ demonstration of a HollowHog installation in regrowth forest by qualified and experienced arborist, Ryan Darrington.

You will also have an opportunity to order a free plywood nestbox, courtesty of FAWNA.

This event is part of the Partnering in Private Land Conservation. A joint initiative delivered by Landcare NSW and the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust, supported locally by MidCoast Council.
