Event description

The Year 6 Graduation Event that children experience at school is a special marker of the transition from primary to high school; it is a rite of passage. This event aims to give home-educated students an equally, fun and exciting event to celebrate all of their hard work over the last few years, to meet other home-educated kids their age, spend an evening with their friends and commemorate this marker with their families. This event will be a fun dinner dance for the Year 6 graduation class of 2025.

This is VERY much a community event and parents/children are encouraged to get involved to make this evening really special. As a Home Education WA (HEWA) event, the cost it is slightly discounted for HEWA members.

Please read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below before you book a ticket!

If you have any questions, please email Sarah at coordinator@hbln.org.au

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the ticket price?

The ticket price includes a four hour event with buffet food (including desert, drinks and lollies). It will also includes a riverside venue with decorations and table centre pieces, get to know you games, and other fun activities, dancing, prizes, a photo space, and a certificate ceremony with personalised certificates. It also covers the costs of ‘less exciting’ but necessary expenses such as insurance.

The menu

What should my child wear?

The theme of the event is formal and fancy so kids can go for broke in terms how special they want to dress. The aim however is for children to have fun, so they can wear whatever they feel comfortable in, whether this be a sequins and sparkles, a fancy suit, a super hero costume or their favourite t-shirt.

What if we have dietary requirements?

The catering will cover standard options. If you have additional dietary needs (i.e., allergies) please indicate this on the form when you book your tickets. We will do our best to accommodate, and will work with you on this.

What if any of the attendees have access or inclusion needs?

The venue is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible toilet. It is located in the riverside Tompkins Park and kids (or adults) who need a bit of a breather can step outside to lovely grounds and view for some quiet. We want this event to be fun and inclusive for all those who attend, so if you have any access and inclusion needs that you think we need to be aware of, please let us know when you book in and we will be in contact.

Can my child or our family sit with friends?

We want all children and a families who attend to have fun and feel comfortable. When you book a ticket, you can nominate other attendees that you or your child would ideally like to share a table with. Please list their full name so we can try to match them up. Not all preferences may be able to be accommodated however we will try to ensure that every attendee is seated with at least one person that they know. There will also be plenty of opportunities throughout the evening for everyone to mingle on the dance floor and through fun games and activities.

Do parents need to attend?

This is not a drop and leave event. All children need to have an adult that is responsible for them. If you are booking a ticket for just your child, then you need to have arrangements in place with another adult (not an organiser) who is responsible for your child at the event.

My child is in year 7 and missed out on an event last year, can they attend?
Yes. We understand that some current year 7s may not have been able to attend the Year 6 graduation and dinner dance event last year, as such, they are welcome to attend this event and get a certificate.

Can siblings/cousins attend?

This is a special event with the focus on the graduating student. If they have an older sibling, that takes on a caring/supportive role with them, then yes you can book a ticket for them as an 'adult' family member (i.e. similar to booking for a parent, guardian, grandparent). Also tickets are limited. We want to focus on as many attending as possible. Tickets are not for younger siblings.

What is the refund policy?

Once you book a ticket it is not refundable (unless the event is cancelled). The tickets are transferable only under limited situations. If you can no longer attend please contact Sarah via email coordinator@hbln.org.au
