Hope to Peace – A Theatre Event
🗓 Saturday, April 26, 2025
📍 Vat Khemarangsaram Temple
⏰ 4:00pm – 9:30pm
Join us for Hope to Peace, a heartfelt theatre performance and cultural gathering that invites Cambodians and friends around the world to connect through memory, dialogue, and the power of storytelling.
About the Event
Hope to Peace is a moving theatrical work that follows the story of a Khmer-Australian family taking their first steps toward healing intergenerational trauma. A single mother, longing to reconnect with her adult children, reaches out in the only way she knows how—through control. Her children, overwhelmed by the pressure and weight of unspoken history, must navigate long-standing communication challenges to create the family bond they’ve always yearned for.
Directed by Roger Ly and collaboratively written by Sandra May, Sovannary Chan, and Lisa Nagasaki, the script was developed through deep consultation with the Khmer community in NSW, weaving together authentic voices and lived experiences.
A Global Collaboration: Acts of Memory
Hope to Peace is part of Acts of Memory—a global program of six hybrid events hosted in Phnom Penh, Sydney, Paris, Long Beach, Montreal, and New York. Each city will present a unique one-hour segment, blending live gatherings with virtual participation, highlighting the diverse stories, traditions, and artistic expressions of Cambodian communities around the world.
The program will pass like a baton across time zones, culminating in a global conversation—an opportunity for reflection, vision, and intergenerational connection, as we look forward to the next 50 years of Cambodian identity and creativity.
