The Primary English Teaching Association Australia is a national, not-for-profit professional association that has been supporting primary school educators across all states and territories for nearly 50 years in the teaching of English, literature, and literacies. These are core skills used across all subjects, and we know that continuing to develop and refine professional teaching skills in this area is critical to day to day teaching practice in Australia – and to delivering a powerful literacy education to every young person.
As an association, we are dedicated to supporting every teacher in their continual professional growth. Working with a network of leading academics, educational and literacy consultants, and classroom teachers, PETAA currently supports primary school educators with:
• an extensive program of professional learning, online and face-to-face, covering aspects of best-practice English and literacy teaching
• professional research-based, classroom-focused print and digital publications and teaching resources to keep members informed on best practice
• advocacy for the professional interests of members and the profession
• research into emerging best-practice primary literacy pedagogy via our regular research grant, which awards funding of up to $75,000 every two years
