The Zonta Club of Melbourne on Yarra is a vibrant and sociable group of women who work together to empower women and girls through service and advocacy, at a local and global level.
We raise funds to deliver a vast range of projects:
Hands on activities:
- make breast care cushions for women recovering from breast cancer surgery;
- put together pamper packs of toiletries for women receiving help from gender-based violence service providers;
- assemble birthing kits for women in developing countries
Other activities:
- provide educational grants for women who demonstrate leadership qualities in local community service;
- award grants to local non-profit agencies servicing the interests of women and girls;
- ZEDX seminars/webinars to create awareness about issues such as - climate change, gender based violence and violations of women's rights internationally and advocate for change to improve women and girls' lives;
- support Zonta International Foundation for Women projects in conjunction with the United Nations to strengthen responses to gender-based violence in PNG and Timor Leste, create education opportunities for vulnerable and excluded children in Madagascar and support the YNFPA-UNICEF global program to eliminate child marriage.
The club is part of Zonta International, a leading global not-for-profit organisation where globally minded individuals connect, collaborate and demand change to build a better world for women and girls by advocating for women's rights, addressing key challenges such as poverty, inequality and violence against women.
