The Wooragee Landcare Group covers the upper reaches of the Reedy Creek, including the Wooragee and Woolshed valleys. We are a group formed by local landholders, which aims to motivate and support landholders, within the catchment, to engage in sustainable land management practices and retain and/or improve the management of our natural environment and its resources for future generations. It will do this by: • Promotion of best land management practices for all types of land uses • Work in partnership with local farmers to ensure sustainability • Encouragement of district wide participation in Landcare activities which will aim to include the many diverse community members • Encourage community interaction via education, sharing of knowledge, restoration works and social events • Development of a district plan • Management of and the protection and restoration of Road Reserves & Crown Land in our area • Being primarily concerned with water quality, revegetation, weed & pest control • Provide assistance, advice and encouragement for native flora & fauna rehabilitation projects. History The inaugural meeting of Wooragee Landcare Group was held at the Wooragee Hall on November 2nd 1988. Services The landcare group produces a regular email newsletter each month. There are also regular meetings, field days, public forums, guest speakers and working bees as notified in the newsletter. The group provides a source of information regarding pest plant and animal management and landholders legal obligations in this area. There is equipment available for hire to members and subsidies for the cost of control measures. Landcare also instigates and co-ordinates area wide programs to control major weeds and pests eg. Paterson’s curse; Rabbits and Foxes. Assistance is also provided for stream water quality issues, revegetation projects and submissions for landcare related grants. Wooragee Landcare acknowledges the traditional owners of lands on which our members live and meet. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging and greatly value our ongoing involvement with local First Nation's peoples.
